"Palazzina degli Orafi" - Milan (MI), Largo Domodossola n. 1

Palazzina degli Orafi, now location of the executive and representation offices of the Fiera Foundation Milano, is a fine example of architecture of the Twentieth century, with fine Art Nouveau decorative furnishings: the building was designed in the Twenties, by the architect Paul Vietti Violi, together with the next same building. The Palazzina degli Orafi is one of the first of three walling buildings, realized in 1923 inside the area of the Fiera Campionaria in Milano, a large corral ready to house exhibitions and trade shows for decades, following significant examples of architecture and temporary installations. In the Palazzina degli Orafi the company restored the precious historic parts with the integration of a contemporary structure in steel and glass, by the project of the architect Raffaele Penco; a particular attention was dedicated to the beautiful staircase with wrought iron railing; on the west side the buildings added from the Sixties were demolished. To satisfy the modern functions, the project involved the simplification of spaces and paths, reorganizing the distribution. The works in the inside concerned the reinforcement of the existing structures and the restoration of the finishings, replacing the damaged parts. The finishings and  the used materials research quality and simplicity of design: the Venetian terrazzo floors in the common areas, the oak flooring for offices and meeting rooms, the roman travertine marble for the entrances coating and the skirting flush to walls.
